“Hey there, my name is Sean Anthony Copeland, I’m a young film director, screenwriter and musician, I have a diploma as film director and an Award-winning short film under my belt and a few remixes I’ve produced, I also have my own recording studio as a music engineer and have been working a lot on vocal recording, mixing, mastering and developing my sound as ‘Fluence’. Working as an artist is challenging but it’s part of it and there are times where it feels like you have an interesting job and I feel like creating whatever kind of art should be recognized and celebrated.”

My background

My name is Sean Copeland, I'm a Swiss/South African film director, screenwriter and musician, I released my first short film back in 2019 titled 'Beyond Dreams' which is a musical/drama short film I wrote, directed, starred in and co-edited, it had its premiere back in August of 2019 for a one night showcase and won an Award and got me my diploma as film director, aside from filmmaking and screenwriting, I'm also a musician, I mainly produce remixes for other artists such as Justice, Le Knight Club, Elton John, Dua Lipa, Thomas Bangalter, Oliver, DJ Falcon and even Daft Punk and I go under the name ‘Fluence’ as my artist name.

I take inspiration from the French house scene specifically Daft Punk and their 2001 album, ‘Discovery’, which is heavily influenced by the French house movement of the 1990s and early 2000s, the album also relies on extensive sampling and most of the samples are from records released in the 1970s and 1980s to also feature some classic disco and funk references into the mix.

My goal is to release music and share it with the people and also focus on my own sound with each release whether it’s a remix or an original song I’ve composed.

I’ve also learned more about songwriting, most of the songs I’ve written are about experiences I’ve had in my life at this point, songs about love, songs out moving on, songs about anger in a way and many more themes, I write them in a more realistic way and I enjoy finding samples that have a connection to the lyrics I’ve written and reworking them in a way that satisfies me.

I learned a lot about sampling through Daft Punk of course and one song I think is flawless sampling wise is ‘Digital Love’ from their ‘Discovery’ album, Daft Punk used a snippet from a song titled ‘I Love You More’ by George Duke, they were able to bring life again to a forgotten disco track of the late 70s and what’s also interesting is that it is known as an unresolved chord progression in music theory as the sample has this feel of openness which gives it a feeling of romantic longing.
